What is the CLC Writing Class?

The CLC Writing Class is a 13-week structured program that takes children step-by-step through the process of writing their very own book. Each lesson is designed to be engaging, simple to follow, and infused with Biblical truth.

Children will learn not only how to write creatively but also how to publish and present their work like professional authors.

Phase 1: Part 1

Lesson One: Introduction to CLC Kenya’s Writing Class

An exciting start! Children learn that they are writing because God has placed a message in their hearts. We introduce the 10-week roadmap, set expectations, and create a supportive writing environment.

Lesson Two: Do You Know Your God-Ordained Purpose?

We dive into Jeremiah 29:11 and help each child discover that they are created for a special purpose. This lesson helps them understand their unique identity as writers.

Lesson Three: What Book Have You Read That Changed Your Life?

Reading fuels writing! Children explore the impact of books they’ve read and how those stories shape their imagination. They begin reviewing books to develop their creative thinking.

Lesson Four: How to Decide on a Book Idea

Children learn how God plants inspiring ideas in their hearts through experiences, dreams, and Scripture. They start shaping the core idea of their story.

Book Your First Mentorship Appointment

This option is open for the writers in the mentorship program. You will be required to have submitted all the assignments for session 1-4 before the appointment is approved.

Phase 1: Part 2 - Writing Class

Lesson Five: How to Do a Book’s Outline

With gentle guidance, children map out their stories using a simple, step-by-step outline format that makes writing a book manageable and exciting!

Lesson Six: How to Develop Your Book’s Characters

Characters come alive! From main heroes to sidekicks and even the “bad guys,” children learn how to create vivid, interesting characters that feel real and relatable—even in memoirs or true stories.

Lesson Seven: The Time and Place Where Your Story Happens

We explore how to describe a story’s setting using all five senses. Children learn how to make their story world come alive and impact their plot.

Lesson Eight: Now Start Writing Your Story!

Time to begin the real writing journey! Children are encouraged to let their words flow without fear of mistakes. We remind them that God is their greatest inspiration and helper.

Book Your Second Mentorship Appointment

This option is open for the writers in the mentorship program. You will be required to have submitted all the assignments for session 5-8 before the appointment is approved.

Phase 1: Part 3 - Writing Class

Lesson Nine: How to Overcome Writer’s Block

What if I feel stuck? We provide practical and spiritual tools to help children overcome discouragement and stay motivated. We remind them to pray, play, and keep writing!

Lesson Ten: The Parts of a Book Explained

Children learn about all the important parts that make up a book:

  • Dedication
  • Acknowledgment
  • Author Bio
  • Front & Back Cover
  • ISBN
  • Publisher’s Logo
    This sets the stage for a professionally structured book.

Extra Resources

Lesson Eleven: Refining for Submission to the Publisher (Typing, Self-Editing, and Formatting)

Children learn how to type their manuscript, edit their own work, and format it for submission. This lesson builds responsibility and attention to detail.

Lesson Twelve: What Does a Publisher Do?

From editing to printing, children discover how publishers turn their manuscript into a real book. We simplify publishing into fun, easy-to-understand steps.

Book Your Third Mentorship Appointment

This option is open for the writers in the mentorship program. You will be required to have submitted all the assignments for session 9-12 before the appointment is approved.

Phase 2 - Graduation

Lesson Thirteen: How to Brand the Author

We prepare children to present themselves as confident young authors! They practice public speaking, pitching their book, and designing a mini author profile. We introduce the concept of author branding in fun, creative ways!

Lesson Fourteen: Graduation Preparation

On the 14th week, we prepare our young writers to celebrate our their progress in a special graduation ceremony scheduled in October-November each year!

Their manuscripts are ready to move on to the publishing stage with our professional team.
