What is Mama Africa Book Box?

Mama Africa Book Box is a community-driven reading club designed to cultivate a love for reading among children, teenagers, and families. We provide access to a wide variety of books through our affordable borrowing system, host engaging events, and foster a culture of storytelling and learning.

How do I borrow books?

Register with a membership fee of Kes 1,000 per family member.
Borrow books for Kes 230 per book (up to two books at a time).
If you love a book, you can buy it by topping up the difference between the borrowing fee and the retail price (RRP).
Return a borrowed book and pick a new one anytime.

What events do you host?

We organize exciting and interactive events, including:

Reading clubs – where members discuss books and share insights.
Family picnics – outdoor reading experiences with fun activities.
Meet-the-Author sessions – opportunities to engage with African authors.
Other literary and family-focused events throughout the year.

How to become a member?

Register by paying Kes 1,000 per member.

What to bring for events?

Depending on the event, you may need to bring:

Your current book (if it’s a reading club).
A picnic mat and snacks (for family picnics).
A notepad and pen (for author sessions).
A curious mind and a love for books!

Are there age restrictions for members?

No! Our program is designed for all ages, from young children to adults. Parents and guardians are encouraged to participate with their children for a wholesome reading experience.

Can I suggest books to add?

Yes! We welcome book recommendations from our members. You can submit book suggestions via email or at our reading club sessions.

What is the cancellation policy?

You can cancel anytime by returning any borrowed books or purchasing them.
The annual membership fee is non-refundable.
